YOUR BUSINESS
“The opinion of your company is formed in seconds…make it memorable.”
One thing that I learned from my career at Ralph Lauren was - it is all in the details. A shirt is a shirt, but when that shirt is set apart because of the feeling it provides to a customer…that is brand.
Ralph Lauren became a leader in fashion because of the details. They pay attention to the quality of fabric, how the product is displayed in stores, how the sales staff is educated in the product and how the shirt makes you feel when you wear it.
For your company, branding may be the way you connect with your customers. Be an expert in who your customers is, what your customer needs and how they like to be communicated to.
This is the essence of brand.
STEP ONE
Define your Ideal Customer
When you know who you are speaking to, it makes it so much more easier to speak! Is she a mom working from home? What does she need? How can you help her?
STEP TWO
Create a Tag Line
We like to think of this as the north star. It sums up your business and gives potential customers an idea of what you stand for.
Oil Culture Tag Line - “Empowering women to rock their essential oil business through inspiration, education and beautiful labels.”
STEP THREE
Choose a Business Name
When choosing a business name, make sure that the same company name is available on all social media channels - IG, FB, Linkedin, Twitter. Cohesiveness is key across all marketing tools.
Also, ensure you claim the domain for the name you choose! Our domain is www.oilculturelabels.com.
Head over to Squarespace to claim your domain for about $20. We own about a dozen domains - you never know when you will need it, so when you get a good idea….go claim the domain!
STEP FOUR
Choose 2-3 Colors
Build the perfect palette for your website, social media, logo, and all marketing assets. Find inspiration for your brands colour palette here.
We have a canva template you can use here.
When you stick to a few colors to use within your brand you set the tone for your business, become memorable and recognizable. Decide if you would like to be fun + punchy with bright, bold colors or calm and simple with more mellow colors.
STEP FIVE
Choose a Signature Font
Pick a font that gives a look and feel you’d like to convey. If you are looking for a light and airy appeal, choose San Script. If you prefer more impact and boldness, try Roboto. Whatever font you choose, make sure it is readable across all platforms.
For our brand we love matching a handwriting font with a bold font.

STEP SIX
Keep a Consistent Look with Photos
Keeping a unified look is essential. The simplest way to make your photos consistent is to use the same filter on your photos and use the same type of background.
At Oil Culture, we use a white background as much as we can. We take photos on the whitest background we can find, we will enhance the exposure or use a back ground remover.
When we use sock photos like from Social Squares or Social Curator or One Drop - we tend to gravitate to airy, pink, light and white.
This takes practice to find your “photo” style. While you learn to take great photos with your camera you may find it helpful to use stock photos.
